Big success for Little Things as nursery scoops top accolade

UK best learning environment

A children’s day nursery in Maghull has beaten hundreds of other nurseries to be named the UK’s Best Outdoor Learning Environment.

It’s the Little Things, located on a 42-acre woodland park in the town, was given the Nursery Management Today Award at a ceremony at the Hilton Metropole in London.

Louise Waller, who co-owns the nursery with business partner Scott McCubbin, said: "It’s a great result for outdoor play. We’ve always pushed for outdoor learning and won plaudits for our healthy policy.

"It’s not just about getting outdoors, but about eating healthy fresh food everyday."

"We like our children to appreciate the outdoors – explore and be independent.

"You can afford to do that when you’re in a nice, safe, green environment, so we are very lucky."

Mrs Waller and her husband Simon – the nursery caretaker – worked together to develop the garden area. They collected their award from Gadget Show presenter, Ortis Deley.
