Nursery fair a great success

A great deal of planning - and just a little luck - made popular Maghull day nursery It’s the Little Things Spring Fair on Saturday a big success, writes Jim Sharpe.

Owner Louise Waller had the idea to stage a fair for the wider public instead of the nursery’s normal open day and in the event people (and their kiddies) flocked to the nursery in the middle of Parkhaven Trust’s sylvan setting off Liverpool Road South. "It as been a real success," said a delighted Louise. "I’ve never organised anything like this before but the idea was to provide an afternoon of entertainment for the community and perhaps attract parents with their children to the facilities we have on offer."

It certainly worked - but only a couple of hours before the opening, Louise was afraid the whole thing was going to be a wash-out. Lashing rain threatened to keep people at home and Louise had to make last minute changes to stage most of the Fair inside, rather than out in the Parkhaven grounds.

But with minutes to spare the sun came out - and a cloudless blue sky welcomed visitors - including Mayor Wyn Maher who tried her hand at Hooking a Duck which vied for attention with 11 other stalls.

Money raised at the Fair will be shared between the Matthew’s Friends charity for childhood epilepsy and to buy equipment for the nursery.
